The Powerbrake brand name has been built on the exceptional performance and durability of the championship winning X-Line race brake systems, which have won numerous national and world championships in circuit, rally and off-road racing. Taking the knowledge learned from developing the X-line range Powerbrake has designed a street and track day kit that retains the 'DNA' of a race caliper.
All of Powerbrakes calipers are machined from solid high-grade aerospace aluminum billet. Machine billet is an expensive way to make a caliper, but the exceptional level of strength and rigidity makes it worth it. With a significant investment in 5-axis CNC production equipment Powerbrake has been able to bring these calipers down to a competitive price.
S-Line calipers are available in 3 colors, red, black and blue. To keep the calipers from discoloring Powerbrake anodizes with a dye that delivers maximum UV resistance and color fastness. Calipers that use a powder coating or epoxy finish can't handle track temperatures, often discoloring to a brown or black burnt color. These finishes also can't handle exposure to brake fluid or cleaners, which is more likely to happen with track use.
Caliper logos are laser etched to create a visually appealing contrast to the caliper color while not being damaged by heat, brake fluid or solvent. The high-tensile caliper cross-bolts are inserted from the inboard side to give a clean, un-cluttered look on the visible side when installed. All other caliper hardware is made of stainless steel to ensure highest levels of corrosion resistance.
Taken from the X-Line caliper range a Maximum Temperature Recording (MTR) system is included. This system provides a much more accurate reading than using a pyrometer in the pits, it keeps a permanent record of the max operating temperature reached by the caliper. This data can be used to help choose brake fluid, important for any track enthusiast to know.
The disc friction rings used in our S-Line disc assemblies are cast from a proprietary high-carbon cast iron alloy that provides excellent durability and stability under the high thermal loads experienced during fast road or track day driving. The discs feature our curved, directional, staggered cooling vane design that increases cooling vane surface area for optimal cooling.
The slot pattern chosen for our S-Line discs is Powerbrakes well-proven “RS” pattern that provides a good balance between functional aspects such as efficient removal of friction gasses, carbonised pad material and water and practical aspects such as low levels of brake noise. This pattern also provides good bite and release characteristics perfectly suited to the entry-level track role intended for the S-Line kits.
The surface coating is able to withstand extreme temperatures and is flexible enough to not flake or peel due to thermal expansion and contraction cycles. The black finish will disappear after about 4-5 brake applications, while the unswept areas will prevent unsightly surface rust. The discs do not need cleaning or preparation using solvents at all, just make sure the car's hud is clean.
Unique to Powerbrake discs, a 5 color MTR system provides a permanent recording of the peak operating temperatures. The single-change colors (Blue, Green, Orange and Pink) will become white when a certain temperature reached, with the lowest being blue at 527 deg Fahrenheit. The longer Red paint, which changes shade between 219-2318 deg F , with the provided color gradient chart can be used to get a more accurate temperature reading.
Powerbrakes S-Float system allows the disc friction ring to expand and contract radially without any restriction as it heats and cools. This significantly reduces stresses within both the disc friction ring and the disc hat and reduces the chance of disc distortion and cracking, while ensuring a very consistent brake pedal feel. Since the S-Line range is designed to be used on the street as well Powerbrake focused on the lowest NVH levels, making these systems run particularly quite during road use.
