Digital Track Coach
Taking a different approach. No masses of data and graphs to absorb, just red and green displays. Find your cars potential then try to match it.
what is the apex pro?
The APEX Pro is a coaching tool which takes a different approach to improving your performance and lap times. The device learns the traction/grip capabilities of your car while you are driving it. The results are then displayed in a simple green and red light line format. The green lights represents your current performance and the red lights indicating what the device has determined is your cars potential for that section of the track. The more red lights - the faster you could go.
You can read the display as you drive and/or post session the data can be downloaded via Bluetooth to an iOS device. The company is working on developing better Android and PC based software.
Despite appearances (and size) the APEX Pro is not a simple device. The Apex Pro assimilates raw data while you drive. "It extrapolates that to a nine axis friction circle...Nine axis form something of a spherical friction circle, so the machine can interpret track details like banks, crests and elevation change." The thousands of measurements taken are filtered and modified, presumptions are made based on the data collected and all applied to the devices software. The displayed results are based on this data.
INSIDE: A lithium ion battery plus state-of-the-art technology including a 10-hertz GPS, the nine-axis accelerometer, ARM Cortex microprocessor, a 12-bit precision accelerometer, a 16-bit gyro that detects rotation, self-calibrating FIR and IIR filtering on all sensors, and a temperature-compensated gyroscope and GPS clock
The APEX Pro should be mounted in your peripheral vision. "You mount it where it's right underneath the direct line of your sight because as humans the lower third of our peripherals are the most active, the most responsive to motions and color." Andrew Rains - APEX Pro marketing director. However, it is best not to place the device on the steering column since turning will cause you to lose sight of the lights.
The APEX has a suite of tools allowing drivers to review and replay data overlaid on track maps or plotted in many ways. To compare laps with other drivers, simply email or airdrop recorded sessions to fellow drivers or driving instructors. Drivers can instantly overlay and compare sessions from the same track. While you are out on the track, friends and crew members can watch your driving and lap-times from anywhere in the world using the CrewView social platform (iOS).
The lights let you know how you are doing while driving, and then afterwards you can review your performance. The data is overlaid onto the track map . You can immediately see your results at any given part of the track. In addition your lap times are displayed with another number. This is really a percentage representation of how close you got to the cars max for that lap. 100% and you are perfect.
